Why is the ice bath Batam's first product, not an add-on?

Because the island is warm all year and the tap runs at about 30 degrees. There is no season in which a cold shower is genuinely cold, so contrast has to be engineered. A gym member in Batam Centre finishing at eight in the evening, a runner back from the Coastarina waterfront, a guest off the Friday ferry into Nongsa - all of them want the cold end first and the hot room second.

That is the reverse of how these projects are sold in cooler countries, and it changes what we build. Many of our jobs start as a cold plunge alone, with a cabin added in a second phase once the household has settled into the routine.

Half a horsepower or a full one for 30 degree water?

It depends on volume, use and where the unit stands. A half HP plunge chiller suits a single-person tub of 250-350 litres used by one household, pulling it down overnight and holding it comfortably. A full 1 HP is the right answer for 400 litres and up, for back-to-back users, or for any tub standing outdoors in the sun.

Both hold anywhere between 3 and 15 degrees; most clients settle around 8-12. The chiller itself is an indicative IDR 25-55 million if you already have a tub and only need the cold. Sited in shade with clear airflow and a plinth above splash level, it works far harder than the same unit boxed into a cupboard.

What keeps an ice bath clean at 96 per cent humidity?

The body is larch or thermowood over an insulated frame with a food-grade liner, which is what keeps the water cold rather than the chiller running permanently. Insulation and a fitted lid matter more than chiller size for holding temperature, and they cut the electricity bill accordingly.

Water is kept honest by a filter pump with ozone or ultraviolet, so a household tub goes weeks rather than days between changes. There is a drain, the surround falls away from the tub, and on an outdoor deck in Nongsa the timber gets the same stainless hardware and roof cover as an outdoor cabin.

Power, drainage and a one to two week install

An ice bath asks very little of the grid. A half to one HP chiller draws roughly 0.5-1 kW, which sits on a 2,200 VA connection or better - no PLN Batam upgrade for the plunge itself. It gets a dedicated circuit with an ELCB, because a pump and a chiller sharing a socket with garden lighting is asking for a nuisance trip. Running cost is an indicative IDR 300,000-700,000 a month with the unit holding temperature around the clock.
