What separates a steam room from a dry cabin?

Temperature and water. A steam room runs at 40-45 degrees with the air effectively saturated, which is gentler on breathing but ruthless on construction: every surface must be waterproof, the floor must fall to a drain, and the ceiling must slope so condensation runs to the wall instead of dripping on whoever is below.

The build sequence is therefore closer to bathroom work than joinery. Tanking membrane over the substrate, mosaic or large-format tile, a seat formed in the structure, a sealed glass door and a 6-9 kW generator sited where it can be serviced. A dry sauna and a wet room can share a wall, and in hotel work they usually do.

Steam rooms for hotel health clubs in Nagoya and Batam Centre

A commercial sauna for hotels and gyms is a different animal from a domestic one: eight to twelve hours of duty a day, guests who arrive in waves off the Friday ferries, and no tolerance for a room out of service. We build those with a generator sized above the room volume, sediment filtration on the feed, an automatic flush cycle, and access panels that let a technician reach everything without breaking tile.

Health clubs in Nagoya and Batam Centre hotels usually refit rather than build new, and a refit is quoted at IDR 15-50 million where the shell is sound. Resorts in Nongsa more often want a steam room, cabin and plunge as a single wellness zone from IDR 250 million. Examples are on the projects page.

Water, generator and the 7,700-11,000 VA question

A 6-9 kW steam generator needs 7,700-11,000 VA, the same tier as a mid-size dry sauna heater, so most cluster houses need a PLN Batam upgrade first and the fee is paid by the owner. Cabling is heat-resistant, on a dedicated breaker with an ELCB, and the generator itself goes in a ventilated cupboard within a sensible pipe run of the room.

Water quality decides how long the generator lives. Island supply carries sediment, so we fit a filter on the feed and specify a descaling routine at handover. Running cost is an indicative IDR 300,000-600,000 a month for four or five domestic sessions a week; hotel duty is calculated separately in the quote.

How much does a steam room in Batam cost, and how long?

Indicative IDR 50-100 million for a turnkey 2x2 m room including tanking, tiling, generator, glass door and lighting, delivered in three to five weeks. Commercial rooms for hotels, gyms and spas start at IDR 150 million and run four to eight weeks depending on how much of the shell we inherit.

The variables are tile choice, whether drainage already exists, and how far the generator sits from the room. A survey settles all three in an hour, and the itemised quote that follows carries a fixed price. Ranges for every format are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Can an existing bathroom become a steam room?

Often yes, if it has drainage, a sensible ceiling height and a wall the generator can serve. The existing tiling almost always comes off, because tanking has to go on continuously behind it. That work sits inside the 15-50 million refit range.

Will the steam damage the plasterboard outside the room?

Not if the room is sealed properly. The membrane, the door seals and the extract path are designed to keep vapour inside; problems appear when a room is tiled without tanking, which is the most common fault we are called in to correct.

What does the room cost to run each month?

An indicative IDR 300,000-600,000 for four or five sessions a week at domestic tariff, water included. Hotel duty of eight hours a day is a different calculation and appears as its own line in a commercial quote.
