Who orders a luxury sauna in Batam, and why?

Three groups, and their reasons differ. Singaporean owners of second homes along the Nongsa coast want the cabin ready for a Friday evening arrival and reliable enough to sit unused for a fortnight. Resort and villa managers want a wellness corner that photographs well and justifies a weekend rate. Owners of large houses in Batam Centre and Sukajadi want the thing they saw in a hotel in Singapore, at home, without the hotel queue.

All three want the same construction. Where they differ is glazing: a deck cabin facing the water can take a full glass wall, while a courtyard cabin in a cluster usually takes a glass door and one panel so the room still reads as private.

Design: tempered glass, floating benches, backlit stone

Eight millimetre tempered glass is the standard for doors and walls, with a timber-free hinge line so nothing swells. Benches in aspen or abachi are cantilevered off the wall, which leaves the floor clear and makes the cabin far easier to rinse out. Backlit onyx or a stone panel behind the heater gives the room its character; indirect lighting under the top bench does more for the atmosphere than any ceiling fitting.

Layouts we build most often are the 6-person 2.4x2 m thermowood cabin at 8 kW, indicative IDR 110-150 million, and the 8-person 3x2.4 m at 9 kW, indicative IDR 150-200 million. A full wellness zone with sauna, plunge and jacuzzi starts from IDR 250 million.

What does an outdoor sauna cabin need beside the sea?

A roof, first of all. An outdoor sauna cabin on a Nongsa deck is exposed to driving rain and hard ultraviolet, so it gets an overhanging roof, a ventilated cavity and thermowood cladding that has already been heat-treated against movement. Decking around it is ulin or bengkirai, which handle the wet and the sun without being coaxed.

Then the metal. Stainless hinges, brackets and fixings throughout, drip edges over the door, and the heater set back from any wind-driven spray. If a cold plunge sits alongside, the chiller goes in shade with airflow around it, on a plinth clear of standing water.

Power, water and the plunge next door

Villa supplies on the Nongsa coast are usually 11,000 VA or three phase, which comfortably carries an 8-9 kW heater; the 10.5 and 12 kW cabins for larger entertaining rooms are three phase only. A house still on 5,500 VA needs a PLN Batam upgrade before any of this is possible, and that fee is the owner's, so we work through the load with you before settling on a size. A heater starved of supply never reaches temperature.

Cabling is heat-resistant SiHF on a dedicated breaker with an ELCB, and where the cabin sits outdoors the whole run is in conduit rated for the weather.
